This alphabet has been my pandemic project. During this time when we were all sequestered, I wanted to work on something fun that would bring some lightness and enjoyment. Friends who have seen the pieces say it makes them happy, a good goal to achieve when we have been through so much.

These last years have been a time when young people have struggled so much with their education and isolation. The alphabet is meant for them, a way the young ones could learn their letters in a fun way, a tool that won’t feel like studying.

I chose to stitch one-half of the alphabet as living things, the other half as objects. This was for my own diversion, a way to keep me going with a project that has taken almost a year. Researching the dictionary, making lists of words and choosing colors has been a joy. My hope is that this alphabet will lift the spirits of children and families and bring enjoyment to all who see it.
